Woodland Evaluation - observations of soils, slope, aspect
and stand composition and quality are recorded and analyzed to ascertain
woodland potential.
Timber Stand Analysis - a determination and analysis
of a timber to determine stand composition, age, size, quality, and merchantable
volume of timber products.
Silviculture - woodland management practices based on
the study of forest species composition, stand characteristics, and site
quality, and implementing a treatment system that maximizes forest productivity.
Slash - the parts of the trees, usually tops, left behind
in the forest after a logging operation.
Landing - an area where logs are loaded onto trucks to be hauled to the
sawmill.
Cull Tree - an unmerchantable tree that is marked to
be cut down to improve the quality of the woodland.
Wetlands - swamps, marshes, and bogs that are valuable
natural resources. Timber harvesting is allowed in wetlands using approved
procedures.
Blaze - a mark on a tree that indicates an action to
be taken or establishes a boundary.
Even-Aged Management - a forest management system created
by removing all trees from a specific area, resulting in a stand of trees
nearly the same age.
Selection Harvest - a type of harvesting system removing
only selected trees, usually performed to maintain an uneven-aged management
system.

of professional foresters in the country.
